Help with a Nightstand Build: Should I Force the Bottom Shelf into Place?

I'm building my first nightstand using 3/4 plywood and cut down 2x2 and 1x2 lumber. I'm using pocket holes to put it together. I've managed to attach the top and middle shelves close to flush, but I'm having an issue with the bottom shelf. It's about a quarter of an inch off from where it should be. I'm considering using clamps to close the gap since the shelf won't be visible, but I'm worried that the screws might not hold over time. Should I just go ahead with that, or is it better to try to fix the squareness first?

It's best to avoid forcing that bottom shelf into place. While it might not be visible, if it’s misaligned, it could cause stress on the screws and lead to future problems. I would recommend taking it out and adjusting it for a better fit. It’s better to take a little extra time now than to deal with issues later!

Agreed! Plus, if things are square, it’ll be much easier to build and assemble the rest of the project. Taking it apart will save you headaches down the road.
