I'm trying to put up some 2x4 shelves in my garage, but I've run into a problem with my uneven walls. The 2x4 is mostly straight, but there's a noticeable hump in the wall around 3-4 feet off the ground. I've already anchored it with a few screws into the wall studs, but there's still a significant gap at the top. I want to get at least one screw up high to secure it better. Just to clarify, I've confirmed that the 2x4 is level, as shown in some pictures I took. I even shoved a big shim in there to help stabilize things. Since these are just garage shelves, I'm not too concerned about aesthetics as I plan to cover the gap with plywood later. Any suggestions on a solid solution? Thanks!

If your 2x4 is straight enough, I recommend just adding some shims behind it until it fits snugly against the wall and calling it a day. It should hold up well for garage shelves!
You can also consider holding the 2x4 plumb against the wall, marking it where it meets the wall's unevenness, and then cutting it to fit. That way, it will sit flush and look a bit neater, but if you're going for quick and effective, shimming at the top like you did in the middle is totally fine too!
To effectively tackle that hump, you could cut out the section of the 2x4 that doesn't meet the wall properly, ensuring it fits well against the shape of your wall. Just make sure you're still keeping it level in the process!
