What Are Some Easy Plants for Beginners in a Bedroom?

Asked By PlantLover92 On

I'm looking to add a couple of plants to my bedroom and I'm not quite sure where to start. I've seen a few recommendations for easy plants, but I keep coming across some horror stories about them. I really enjoy watering and caring for plants, but I want to avoid the pitfalls of overwatering or underwatering. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What’s the lighting like in your room? That can really impact which plants will thrive there. Some plants need more light than others!

From my experience, Dracenas have been super easy for me as a beginner. If you're just starting out, they’re pretty forgiving!

You can't go wrong with Pothos; they're perfect for beginners. They manage a wide range of light and can handle varying water conditions. Plus, if you mess up and the roots rot, you can just cut and propagate from the vines. I’d recommend starting with watering them once a week and adjusting based on how quickly the soil dries out.

Definitely skip the calatheas; I've struggled with those too! For easy care, I’d recommend going for Snake plants, ZZ plants, Pothos, and Peace Lilies. They’re pretty hardy! Also, I’d suggest grabbing a water meter from Amazon for about $10. It’s super helpful to know when to water. Generally, soak your plants well and then let the soil dry out before watering again. Just keep in mind that some, like the Snake and ZZ plants, don’t need too much water while Pothos and Peace Lilies are a bit more forgiving. Don’t forget to consider the light in your bedroom; if it’s not great, getting a plant light might be a good idea. And do check your soil! Sometimes the nursery soil isn’t the best; mixing a good potting soil with perlite and orchid bark helps with drainage.

Totally agree with you! A moisture meter makes all the difference for beginners. Plus, a small plant light can really help if your room doesn't get enough natural sunlight.
