How Can I Prevent Weeds in My Mulch Bed Without Hurting My Plants?

I've noticed weeds popping up in my mulch bed, and I need some advice on how to get rid of them without damaging my plants. I'm looking for effective ways to kill the weeds from the roots and am also considering adding new mulch. A landscaping guy suggested using chemicals that kill weeds, but I'm worried about how they might affect my plants. What are some safer options for weed control, especially here in Texas?

It really depends on what kind of weeds you’re dealing with. You can pull some by hand, spray others, or even cut them down and treat them. Just remember that mulch is mainly a support for your plants to grow well, and managing weeds might require some extra effort, especially if you want to avoid chemicals.

Is it possible to just add more mulch to keep the weeds down? I'm really worried about using chemicals and having my plants die.
