Do I Need Brackets Along with Shims for Hanging a Prehung Door?

I'm diving into hanging doors for the first time and just came across prehung door kits that look really easy to use. However, I'm a bit confused about whether brackets are necessary or if using shims would be better for keeping the door stable. Should I use both the metal brackets and shims behind the hinges, or are the brackets sufficient on their own?

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with the brackets or shimming behind the hinges. There's a fantastic video by Gary Katz on installing prehung doors that breaks everything down nicely. I'd suggest giving that a watch to avoid any headaches during your install.

I get what you're saying about the brackets, but those metal door hanging kits can be really effective too! If you're leaning towards the brackets, just make sure you double-check how they're set up with the door. It might save you some frustration later on.
