Hey everyone! I'm setting up a hybrid garage shop that I'll be sharing with my father, who does silk screening, while I focus on woodworking. We really need a solid way to handle both dust and fumes – especially from oil-based paints, lacquer thinners, and airbrushing. I've been looking at Rockler's dust-right wall mount collectors and air filtration ceiling units for my side. We also plan to make an airbrush booth with an exhaust system. In his previous shop, he had some exhaust setup but he said it still smelled "like a hospital." This shop is in a standard residential garage with no temperature control and we experience all four seasons. I'm particularly worried about keeping the air clean for my two young boys. What systems should I consider for dust and fume mitigation?

I built a dust collection system based on the plans from Bill Pentz’s website, and it works wonders for capturing particulates. For fumes, I suggest trying to capture them at the source and using exhaust with carbon filters if you want to avoid bothering your neighbors. Just cycling fresh air in will really help overall.
The Rockler units should work well for your space, just make sure they're sized correctly for your room. They're effective for dust control, but do note that scrubbers can be quite noisy.
