Best Off-Grid Charging Solutions for My Tesla?

Asked By SunnySide2024 On

I'm diving into solar energy and need some advice on off-the-shelf solutions to charge my Tesla Model Y completely off-grid. I'd like a modular system so I can gradually expand it to power more items in my home. Starting with my Tesla feels like a smart move. I've heard of Renogy offering budget-friendly kits and Anker providing more premium options. Besides the kit, what else would I need to charge my Tesla, especially since I have a 220V outlet in my garage?

You should consider how many miles you drive daily. That will help determine the size of the system you'll need, especially in winter. If you want a straightforward option, Signature Solar has an EV kit for roughly $15k that could work well for you.

I found this video that demonstrates a similar setup to what you're describing. It took a few full sunny days to gather enough power to fully charge a Tesla. It might give you a better idea of what's required: [Video Link](https://youtu.be/RTdpbFQySE4?si=0Swr64W3TA1tLpFU). Glad to help!

Honestly, steer clear of Renogy and Anker. They don't really live up to the hype. If you're serious about off-grid charging, check out EG4. It's more reliable and has a solid reputation. Also, definitely watch Will Prowse's videos for some great insights!

If you want to follow AI suggestions, they had a setup starting with a Renogy 800W solar kit at around $800-$1,200. You can add panels in 400W increments for about $300-400 each and pair it with LiFePO4 batteries (starting with 100Ah for $300-$500). Overall, you're looking at a starting cost of about $2,000-$2,500. But don’t forget the inverter, which is crucial for converting the power!
