M12 Subcompact vs. M12 Fuel: Which Should I Get for My DIY Projects?

I'm a DIY enthusiast who enjoys working on home projects, like putting up cabinets, and I have a small wooden shed (<100 sq ft) to build soon. I'm weighing my options between the M12 Subcompact drill and impact driver combo versus the M12 Fuel hammer drill and impact driver combo. The Fuel kit is only about $30 more during a sale, but I appreciate the lightweight design of the Subcompact. I want something that I can use all weekend without tiring my arms and with a battery that lasts throughout. Will the Subcompact be sufficient for my needs, or should I opt for the Fuel? Or should I consider the M18 series instead? Thanks for any advice!

I'd suggest sticking with a regular drill instead of a hammer drill unless you're working with concrete. The M12 Surge is fantastic too; it’s much quieter than traditional drivers. If you do end up needing to drill into tougher materials sometimes, you can always grab a budget-friendly corded option for those occasions.

I've got the M12 Subcompact set, and they're great for lighter tasks. However, I primarily use my M18 for heavy-duty stuff. For your shed project, I recommend going for the M12 Fuel. It gives you a bit more power and versatility, making it easier to handle those screws without much strain.

Good point about fatigue! If you're doing a lot of twisting and screwing, you might want the M12 Fuel. It’s designed to absorb some of that impact, which can help if you have any sensitivities. Also, consider the M12 Surge; it’s quieter and can be gentler on your joints. I struggled a bit with fatigue until I switched, and it made a difference. Just listen to your body!
