Why Is My Rubber Mat Getting Water Under It?

I've noticed some water collecting on the underside of a rubber-backed mat we keep at our back door over hardwood floors, especially early in the morning. There was a prior issue with door leakage, but it seems like that's been fixed. I'm guessing this could be condensation since we live in South Carolina, but I'm not entirely sure. Should I be concerned about warmer air leaking in at night, or does it seem like something else? Any advice on how to tackle this would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with that! Removing the rubber mat temporarily would be a good idea. It’ll give your floor a chance to dry out without being covered. Plus, if there’s still moisture, you can better identify the source without the mat in the way. If it dries up, you might reconsider using a different type of mat altogether.

It sounds like the mat might be trapping moisture that the hardwood floor has absorbed over time. If there's any past water leakage, the wood could retain some moisture, which would then get trapped under the mat. I recommend taking the mat out for a bit and observing if that helps. It’s possible that a rubber mat isn't the best fit for that spot, especially if there’s any moisture involved.
