Do I Really Need to Let Water Sit for My Plants?

Hey everyone! I'm a self-taught plant parent and I've mostly been following advice I've picked up over the years. Recently, someone told me that it's best to leave watering water out in containers to let the minerals evaporate before using it for my plants. I've been doing this for a while now, but with my growing collection of plants, I've ended up with a dozen gallon jugs just taking up space in my sunroom! Is there a more efficient way to store large amounts of water? Or can I just use water straight from the tap without any issues? I'd really appreciate any tips!

Most plants, like calatheas, do prefer distilled or evaporated water, but honestly, most others are perfectly fine with tap water. I used filtered water for years, but once I moved and started using tap, I didn’t notice any harm at all. If anything, my plants have grown better in the new spot thanks to more light!

The idea that evaporated water is necessary is kind of a myth. The only plants that really need non-tap water are super sensitive types like calatheas or carnivorous plants. For everything else, just use the tap — it’s totally fine!

Thanks for clearing that up!
