I recently visited a new construction home I'm considering purchasing, but I noticed a significant crack in the garage's concrete floor. It's pretty long and wide—big enough that you could fit a quarter in it. I've read online that cracks like this shortly after the concrete sets could indicate settlement issues. The builder is only willing to fill the crack instead of doing a complete fix, which includes tearing out the concrete and repouring it. Should I be worried about this crack?

Are you dealing with clay soil in your area? That can often lead to more significant settling issues. If it is clay, you might want to consider having a professional evaluate the foundation and the soil conditions. It’s better to know now than to deal with problems later.
It sounds like the crack could be due to settling, which is pretty common in new builds. Just filling the crack might not solve any underlying issues, so I’d definitely keep an eye on it. If it grows or you notice other cracks appearing, that could signal bigger problems down the line.
