Is it Normal for My 850 Impact to Get Hot During Heavy Use?

Hey everyone! I just got my hands on the 850 impact last week and was super excited to put it to the test on a retaining wall project over the weekend. I had to drive about 50 Timberlok screws that are 8 inches long into some treated 5x5 timber. Overall, I was really impressed with how it performed—the 5Ah batteries lasted well, and the impact itself did an awesome job. However, I did have one concern: is it normal for the motor to get really hot after using it for a while? I was using mode 3, and I understand that driving into treated wood is a bit of a challenge. Thanks for any insights!

You're pushing the little guy for sure! The 860 has more power, but even that would probably be working hard in your situation. A lot of folks really love the 850, and it sounds like it's holding up well despite the heat.

Appreciate it! I knew it was a challenging task, but I'm glad to hear it can handle it.

I was using the 860 all day with 8" screws too, and while it was fantastic, it definitely got hot. Just be mindful of how hard you're working it!

Yeah, I think it's perfectly normal for it to heat up a bit after heavy use. Those are some long screws, especially in pressure-treated wood! I usually let mine cool down halfway through. But overall, it's a solid tool for tough jobs like that. You’re definitely pushing it to its limits!

Thanks for that! I figured I might be asking a lot from it on its first run, but I thought there might be some normalcy to it heating up.
