I'm trying to find plants that can grow well in just 4 cm of soil and not require a lot of sunlight. I initially thought about using moss, but I'm concerned it might need a humid environment which I don't have. My setup is like a wooden box with small walls, no roof, just sitting by a window that doesn't get much light. Any suggestions for plants that would suit this?

If you're open to non-traditional plants, you could try some air plants (Tillandsia). They don’t need soil at all and just require a bit of misting. Plus, they look pretty cool! Just keep them in a spot where they can get indirect sunlight.
You might want to consider some types of succulents or small ferns, as they can adapt to low light and don’t need deep soil. Ferns, in particular, thrive in moisture and can do well in shallow setups as long as you keep them hydrated. For the succulents, look for varieties like Haworthia or jade plants—they’re pretty forgiving!

That’s a great point about succulents! They can tolerate low light but do remember to water them sparingly.
