Hey everyone! I just moved into a new apartment and everything seemed fine during my inspection. But a few days later, I noticed some small, irregular yellow spots on my granite countertop, which has me really worried. I know granite can be pricey and tricky to fix. I haven't put anything heavy or abrasive on it, so I'm trying to figure out if these spots are actual damage or just natural imperfections. They feel a bit indented when I touch them, which makes me wonder why the granite would be different colors underneath if it's all supposed to be uniform. Any insights would be super appreciated!

Granite is pretty consistent all the way through, so there's not really a 'top surface' you can peel off. You can etch the surface with acidic cleaners, but from what you're describing, that doesn't seem to be the case here, though your photos might not show enough detail. Granite does have natural variations in color and pattern, so if what you’re seeing is an inclusion, that would typically be a fault in the slab. It’s good to check if those spots feel smooth like the rest of the countertop!
Another photo could help a lot! Sometimes it's hard to tell from a distance. If they're rough, that could indicate some surface issue.
Those yellow spots might actually be pyrite. It's a natural mineral that can occur in granite. If that's the case, it just adds character to your countertop!

Thanks for the insight! I'll grab a closer photo later. I initially thought the spots might be caused by etching since they look like tiny drops, but I thought they'd be round if that were true. As for smoothness, most of the spots feel rough and slightly lower than the surrounding surface.
