Need Help with PE Approval and Permitting for My Solar Installation

I'm in the process of installing a rooftop solar array and I'm a bit confused about the permitting and PE approval requirements. So far, I've mostly installed an EG4 Flexboss21 and GridBoss along with three 14.3kWh EG4 Indoor batteries. My electrician is handling the meter and panel connections to the GridBoss and is installing a service disconnect. I'm also planning to install a remote rapid shutdown (RSD) outside to comply with NEC regulations. I've already submitted a One-Line diagram, Site Plan, Net-Metering Application, and Interconnection Application to my energy provider, but I think I still need a building permit and PE approval for the rooftop setup. My local jurisdiction doesn't seem to have specific "solar permits," and the building permits are asking for detailed structural info, like footings, almost as if I'm building a house. I'm assuming a PE will need to assess the roof loads. Can someone clarify the next steps for me? I feel like I've done a lot already but I'm unsure about what's left. Thanks!

Have you tried talking directly to an inspector from your town? They can clarify all the requirements for you. Sometimes it's much easier to get the right info straight from the source!

No, I haven’t spoken to an inspector yet. I’ve looked online for my municipality but found it really hard to get any clear information. Even my energy supplier has given me conflicting statements. I guess I might just need to pick up the phone!

You might want to check with the solar mounting companies. Many of them provide stamped letters for various states that you can use if your plans comply with their standards. Some even offer design services that generate stamped plans specifically for your installation. This could simplify things for you!

For your project, you definitely need a plan set that includes the structural details. After that, a structural engineer will need to review it and provide a stamp if everything meets the minimum requirements. This is essential for compliance with local regulations.
