What’s the Deal with ‘Mineral Oil’ in the UK?

I've noticed that many US woodworkers recommend using 'mineral oil' for finishing wood projects. However, when I search for it, I mostly find expensive products labeled as 'cutting board oil'. Is there a different term we use for this in the UK?

In the UK, we still refer to it as mineral oil. It's sometimes marketed as 'chopping board oil' to emphasize that it's safe for food use—so you're not looking for a different product, just a different name!

Yeah, it's the same stuff. It might also be called petroleum oil at times. Just check the labels to be sure you're getting food-grade!

The main application is for any type of wood. Just wipe it on, let it soak in, and then wipe off the excess. Give it a couple of days to cure properly!

Thanks for the guidance! I've never used mineral oil before, so I appreciate the tips on application!
