Help! Grass Dying After Using RM43—Can I Save It?

Asked By MightyPineapple42 On

I sprayed RM43 along the back of my fence a few weeks back to tackle some weeds, but now the grass on the lawn side has turned brown and looks totally dead. I'm thinking it might be from some runoff or drift. I know RM43 contains glyphosate and imazapyr, both of which can stick around in the soil for a bit. Is there a way to revive the grass, or am I looking at having to reseed or re-sod this area? If replanting is my only option, how long should I wait before trying to grow new grass there to avoid having it killed off again? Appreciate any advice!

You could try flooding the area with a hose for a few hours—seriously, it worked for me last time! After that, just wait a week or two and you can replant. Digging out the soil seems a bit extreme for this, trust me. Just keep an eye on it and it should be fine!

How deep should I dig if I go that route? Just trying to gauge here.

Yeah, that sounds like overkill! Flooding and waiting could do the trick.

If you're thinking about replanting, you could actually do it this fall. The RM43 should wear off enough by next year for new grass to grow. Just keep monitoring the area to make sure the residual isn't affecting your new plants.

Awesome, good to know! Thanks for the heads up.
