I'm curious about testing my tap water for microplastics. What's the best method for doing that? Also, should I be looking for other forums to ask this in?

You might be surprised—some under-sink reverse osmosis systems are available for under $200. So, if you're serious about filtering your water, it can be a lot more affordable than you think!
Testing for microplastics can be pretty pricey, especially if you're looking for a thorough analysis. If you have well water, it might be worth it, but for most tap water, you're likely to find microplastics present anyway. Unfortunately, unless you're up for investing in a costly reverse osmosis system to filter out all these tiny particles, there's not much you can do about it.
