I'm getting ready to paint a large room for the first time, and I want to be as efficient as possible since I don't have another place to sleep while I'm working on it. If I clean my walls about a week before I actually start painting, and keep the windows open during that time, will I need to wash them again with soap before painting? Or will a quick rinse be enough? I just want to make sure I get everything ready without exhausting myself too much before the big day.

I usually just hit the walls with a vacuum to clear away any cobwebs or dust. If you're worried about washing with soap, you might not need to unless there’s built-up grime. The only time I clean like that is in kitchens and bathrooms; for everything else, a sand and wipe-down should suffice. And you can definitely clean earlier, but I’d do a light wipe right before painting just to be safe.
Cleaning ahead of time is totally fine, but don’t forget to give the walls a light wipe-down right before you paint. This ensures no dust or residue is left that could mess with the paint sticking well. If you cleaned them already, a quick rinse should be enough unless there’s any sticky stuff lingering. Opening windows for ventilation and drying the walls will definitely help, so you’re on the right track. Just pace yourself, you’ve got this!
You should be just fine! A lot of people skip washing their walls completely. If they're particularly dirty or greasy, a quick wash might be warranted. But usually, a good once-over with a sanding block and a damp cloth does the trick. I’ve even skipped the towel step and it still turned out okay! Just keep it casual and don’t stress too much about it.
