I had a strange incident two nights ago when my garage door opened unexpectedly around 2 AM, and no one was supposed to be out there. We live in a very safe neighborhood, but this has made me anxious because my car was parked outside. Since then, our garage door remotes have stopped working, although the side keypad still functions. Should I simply try rematching the remote, or is there an upgrade I need to consider? I'm not sure how to do that, but I can afford it if necessary.

I'd recommend starting with rematching the remote. It's often the simplest fix, and you can usually find instructions in your garage door opener's manual. Give it a shot and see if that resolves the issue!
It's interesting that your garage door opened by itself! Sometimes, neighboring signals can interfere with the garage door's remote operation. If it keeps happening, you might want to check if your remote can switch frequencies to avoid interference with other devices. That might solve both your remote issues and prevent any spooky 2 AM openings in the future!
