Starting My New Lawn Care Job on Monday—Any Advice for a Nervous Newbie?

I'm starting a new job in lawn care on Monday, and I'm feeling a bit nervous. My background is a month of experience with a landscaping company, but they let me go for their own biased reasons, and there wasn't much teamwork or training. I consider myself above a beginner but not quite intermediate. I sometimes get quite sore from using a string trimmer for edging, and while mowing isn't as taxing, I'm worried about my technique and navigating around trees and other obstacles. Any tips for impressing my new crew and solidifying my position would be fantastic! I've driven tractors and zero-turn mowers before but haven't actually had a chance to mow with them. Also, I'd love advice on planting flowers and trees, spreading mulch, or even simple tasks like leaf blowing. Thanks in advance for any help!

Good luck in your new role! Just a heads up—your old company sounds rough. At least you know what to avoid now. Make sure to stay hydrated, and don’t hesitate to ask your new crew questions when you’re unsure about something—chances are they’ll appreciate your eagerness to learn!

Reliability is key! If you show up every day and put in the work, you’ll be a valued member of the team quickly. Just focus on doing the best you can, and don't worry too much about making everything perfect on your first go.

Totally agree! Just keep a positive attitude, even if things go sideways. It’s all a part of learning!
