Do I Need to Use Weed Killer Before Laying New Turf?

Hi everyone! I've got a nice garden with borders on each side, but last year's heat caused some plants to die even with watering. I'm looking to expand the grassy area for my kids to have more play space. I've already cleared out the old plants and rotavated the topsoil. Before I level the ground and lay new turf, I'm wondering if I should apply weed killer? I've had issues with weeds in the past, and I'm concerned they might take over the new grass in a few years. I've also seen new builds with turf laid down without any herbicides, so I'm a bit torn. Any advice on this and some tips for laying turf would be greatly appreciated! I'm holding off until the current heatwave passes. Thanks!

Honestly, you probably don't need it. If you lay the turf when the weather is a bit milder and preferably when the ground is damp, the grass can usually outgrow any weeds. Sure, you'll see some weeds pop up occasionally, but if you keep the grass healthy, it should take over pretty well. Just remember to care for the grass as it grows!

Thanks for that advice! I was also curious about the type of turf to choose, since the previous owners laid down grass that I can't identify. Should they all blend together eventually?
