I've been spotting some great sales on the 5.0 HO batteries lately, and it's got me wondering if M12 forge batteries might be launching soon. What do you all think?

It seems likely! There are tabless 18650 cells available right now from Ampace, the same folks who make the cells for the forge packs. These should allow for some interesting new pack configurations, especially with their 3000mAh capacity that can be used for 3Ah and 6Ah packs.
The 5.0 batteries are definitely on the bulkier side even with the 18650s. I'm really curious about how they'll manage to keep everything fitting within the M12 size. Any guesses?
My bet is on using tabless cells, similar to the designs in the 8.0 and 12.0 forges, but scaled down to fit the M12.
I just hope they come up with some extended versions, like a longer mag that still fits the M12 style!
Totally agree! Looks like we might be in for some solid upgrades.
