Need DIY Tips for Dealing with Mold at Home

I've realized that my house has a mold problem, but sadly, I'm not in a position to hire professionals for an inspection or removal. I'm wondering if anyone has advice on checking behind walls or in hard-to-reach places like under the bathtub, in the attic, or beneath the kitchen sink. We've had a leak that I suspect might have created mold under the floorboards, so I'm looking for practical solutions that don't involve tearing everything apart. I'd appreciate any constructive suggestions—no extreme measures or expensive fixes, please!

A good starting point is to use a moisture meter—they're pretty affordable. Mold usually grows in damp areas, so this could help you pinpoint where to check. Just a heads up, if you have a serious mold issue, it can pose health risks, and waiting too long may lead to bigger problems. You should also consider getting some dehumidifiers and fans to help dry things out. If it was caused by a leak, think about filing an insurance claim; just make sure to consult contractors who know the process well. Unfortunately, I know a couple who didn't act quickly enough and ended up having to sell their house for way less than it was worth.

If I set up dehumidifiers and run them at specific humidity levels, would that actually kill the mold, or would it just stay dormant?
