Is It Safe to Go Ahead with an Insulation Proposal from My Energy Assessment?

I recently had a home energy assessment done and I'm considering their insulation offer. They're suggesting air sealing, adding 12" of cellulose insulation in the attic, extending rafter vents, and putting enclosures for recessed lights. Also, they recommend venting my bathroom fan through the roof instead of the gable like it is now. The whole thing will cost me around $600. My main concern is that I have no choice over the contractor doing the work, so I'm worried about their quality. I'm in a 90-year-old house and I've heard some stories about blown-in insulation causing sagging. Is there actually a risk with this kind of work? Any horror stories or experiences to share?

I've had similar work done before, and I always made sure to pick the contractor. You should definitely reach out to them to see if there’s a way to choose someone you trust. That can give you some peace of mind!

Regarding the insulation, it’s pretty lightweight overall. If it's causing sagging, there might be other issues at play with your house. You might have some natural sag just due to its age. But honestly, $600 is a steal! Just make sure the people they hire are licensed and insured.

Honestly, for $600, it sounds like a pretty good deal. I mean, just think about what you're getting for that price. Air sealing and all that insulation could help you save on your energy bills. Can't imagine much could go wrong unless the contractor is really dodgy. But hey, what’s the worst that could happen?

Exactly! If they do a good job, you'll probably end up saving way more than what you spent. In my area, similar work would cost way more, like around $3000.
