What’s the Best Plant Care Platform for Total Newbies?

I just moved into my first apartment in Toronto and received a few houseplants as gifts. To be honest, I don't even know what types they are! I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the conflicting information out there about watering and light requirements. Is there a go-to platform or app for plant care advice that's easy to follow for someone who has zero gardening experience? I'd really appreciate hearing what resources you all found useful.

I really recommend "The New Plant Parent" book. It’s super helpful for understanding things like soil needs, light levels, and how to take care of various houseplants in detail.

Most plant care apps aren't very reliable. My advice is to identify the plants you have first, then look up care tips for each species individually. You can even post pictures here to get help identifying them!

Honestly, I use a few different platforms. For specific plant issues, this subreddit is super helpful; everyone here is genuinely knowledgeable and not just pushing products. I also recommend the LetPlant app for tracking care tasks—it sends friendly reminders without bombarding you like some other apps. And definitely check out YouTube channels like Swedish Plantguys or Planterina; they’re great for learning practical techniques!

You can't go wrong with YouTube! I've spent countless hours watching indoor plant experts share their experiences. It really helps you learn the ropes from people who have been gardening for years. Just search for channels dedicated to plant care, you'll find tons of great tips!

Totally agree! I've learned to identify different plants just from watching those videos! ?

A big part of plant care is just learning through experience—reading, watching tutorials, and dealing with a few plant casualties! Just remember, it’s not always your fault if a plant dies. ❤️
