I've recently moved to the East Midlands and I'm curious about growing peach and fig trees. Specifically, I want to know if it's feasible to cultivate these trees around Lincoln, assuming I have sunny spots for them. How far north can I actually grow these trees?

You can definitely grow fig trees in that area! I've seen them thrive in places like Sheffield and even Manchester. The winters in the East Midlands are mild enough for figs, especially if you can give them a nice sunny spot. As for peach trees, they might be a bit trickier, but I've heard of dwarf varieties doing okay even in the North, so it could be worth a shot! Check out local nurseries for any peach varieties suited for cooler climates.

Fig trees are known to do well in various parts of the UK, including places like Cambridgeshire and even around Lincoln. As for peach trees, they typically prefer warmer climates, but I've got a dwarf peach tree in Manchester that's doing great! If you choose a hardy variety and give them some protection during harsh winters, you might have some success.

In my experience, fig trees are pretty resilient and can survive winters without much fuss. I’ve seen a Brown Turkey fig in West Yorkshire doing just fine without protection. For peach trees, it might be a hit or miss, but I know of some folks growing them in polytunnels up north. It can help keep them cozy during chilly spells!
