Accidentally Flooded Bathroom with Bidet – What To Do Next?

Asked By CuriousCat123 On

I'm in a bit of a bind and need some advice! I'm 22 and still living with my parents, and I accidentally left the bidet on for almost two hours. I didn't notice until I went downstairs and saw a big puddle on the floor, plus water dripping on my head from the soaked ceiling. Now I'm freaking out. My dad seems pretty chill about it, which is great, but should I be worried? Do I need to call someone to come check it out? Should I get a dehumidifier right away? I'm also concerned about mold. I've dried out the upstairs bathroom, but I have bowls and towels out to catch the dripping. What should I do?

You might want to heat the upstairs to help the moisture evaporate and then cool it down to pull out the humidity with your AC. That can really help things dry out faster!

Nice tip! I’m definitely going to try that.

Trust me, I know how these things can happen. I once left a sink running and ended up with a huge mess too. Just make sure you clean it up well and check for potential damage later on!

Yikes! A rough situation for sure. It happens, but your dad seems pretty understanding—keep that in mind as you clean up! Mine would have flipped out!

In some cases, you might want to think about poking a small hole in the ceiling to let trapped water drain out if necessary. But only if you’re comfortable with that kind of DIY work. If not, definitely call a pro!

That sounds a bit intense for me! I’d rather leave that to someone who knows what they’re doing.

Just based on your situation, there could be a substantial amount of water in the ceiling. A dehumidifier is necessary, but also consider that you might need to consult a pro for damage assessment and drying—especially if you notice structural issues later.

Oh man, that sounds not so great. I’ll definitely keep an eye out, just to be safe!

For the future, it’s a good idea to invest in some water leak sensors. They can alert you immediately and help avoid situations like this. Just a thought!

Get a strong dehumidifier ASAP! It’s crucial to prevent mold and dry out the space. Don’t forget to check online shops for a fast delivery since you need it quick!

Consider checking with your dad about homeowners insurance. There are restoration companies that can handle this, and they usually work with insurance to minimize your out-of-pocket costs. It might be worth bringing it up!

I just mentioned that to him—it’s good to know those options are available!

It sounds daunting, but try not to panic. Your dad probably sees this as a minor problem rather than a catastrophe—stuff like this can be fixed. No one’s going to jail over a little water mishap, right? Just focus on drying everything out, and you’ll be fine!

Dads can be calm about this stuff, especially if they've had their share of accidents! Just take it as a learning experience!

I feel you, my mind was racing too. Knowing someone else has had a similar experience is totally reassuring!

Make sure you’re using fans to help with the drying process. Also, turning off any light fixtures that could have been affected is smart—better safe than sorry!

HomeHero77 -

Thanks! I turned off the ceiling fan and I’ll grab some portable fans to speed up the drying.
