I'm trying to waterproof a section of wall and molding around my shower enclosure. I recently put in some molding after someone else installed the shower, which had a weird corner. I built a corner piece at a 105° angle since the wall isn't straight. However, I've noticed moisture is getting to it, especially after I open the shower door, leading to drips. I've tried using a matte waterproof varnish, but it hasn't worked well. I'm considering repainting and using more varnish or pulling everything out and tiling instead. Any suggestions on how to effectively waterproof this area and make the corner where the molding meets the potential tile look good?

I’d suggest using paintable caulk where the wall meets the molding and then repainting with a semi-gloss or satin finish paint. Also, don’t forget to caulk where the molding meets the floor too. I recommend using silicone for a strong seal.

That sounds good, but how do I seal the fiberboard molding? Caulking helps, but won’t the wood still soak up some moisture? I thought about switching to tile, but I’m worried about how to properly seal it with the existing molding all around.
