Why Does My Well Water Taste Heavy Even with a Filtration System?

I recently bought a house and invested in a comprehensive water filtration system, which I had tested during the inspection and it checked out fine. However, I'm finding the water tastes unusually heavy or thick, making it really hard to drink. I've noticed a similar but less intense taste at other homes with well water. Does anyone have ideas on what might be causing this issue or how I could improve the taste?

It sounds like you might be tasting the effects of a water softener. I grew up using untreated well water and the softened stuff always tasted heavy, almost to the point of being slimy at times. You could ask the installation company about tweaking the settings or even consider adding a stage for remineralization to balance the flavor a bit more. It's also worth checking whether your water was tested before or after filtration to know what you're dealing with.

If you're up for it, try tasting the water straight from the well. I lived on a well for years and often found the unfiltered water tasted much better than treated stuff. Just make sure to check for any contaminants first! Depending on where you are, some homes might not even need extensive treatment.

What type of filtration system do you have? Is it a water softener or maybe a reverse osmosis setup? Well water can vary significantly in mineral content, so diagnosing the issue is tricky without a good test. Have you looked into what types of minerals your system is dealing with?
