Hey there! I've got a small IKEA table that I want to use as a workbench, but there's a catch. I tried adding some castors to the legs, but the plates are too big, and when I started screwing them on, it pulled up the laminate from the legs. I really want these castors because they're large, easy to roll, and have soft wheels. One idea I had was to attach a piece of wood that would span from leg to leg, attach the castors to that, and raise the table slightly. Plus, it would give me an extra shelf at the bottom. Is this a ridiculous idea?

That idea isn’t silly at all! It sounds like a solid plan. Attaching a piece of wood to the legs to serve as a plate for the castors should work well, and you'll get that extra shelf space too. Just make sure the wood is sturdy enough to hold everything in place! If you don’t mind the table being taller, it’s perfect for working while standing, which sounds like what you want. Also, thick plywood would definitely work for this.
If you can, you might want to find someone with a 3D printer. They could make you a custom plate that fits the caster size and fits on your table legs. That way, you wouldn’t risk pulling up the laminate. It’s a bit more advanced, but it could save your table!
That sounds amazing! I’ll have to look into it, even if it's tricky to find someone nearby.

Nice, that's good to hear! I’m glad my idea has some potential. I'll make sure to get a thick piece.
