Why are all bathroom floor tiles faux stone and 12×24?

I'm in the market for ceramic bathroom floor tiles, but I'm really not into anything that looks like an imitation. I want something genuine—no faux marble or fake stone. It seems like every affordable option out there is a 12x24 tile that just looks like stone, and that leaves me frustrated. I'm wondering if making solid color ceramic tiles is cheaper than creating these faux styles? I get the marketing pitch about faux marble being 'timeless', but it doesn't feel right, especially since I don't even like marble! I have a 50s ranch and I'm looking for solid-color square tiles for the floor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Totally with you on disliking the faux marble trend! If you're open to suggestions, consider travertine—it has a classic look and isn’t overly expensive. Also, if you haven’t tried Menards, they tend to have more basic options than the big box stores, and I've seen some solid 12x12 tiles that might work well.

Yeah, Menards often surprises me with their selections! Also, consider looking at porcelain tile for more variety. And don't dismiss sheet vinyl; it can have some really nice styles and is super easy to install!

I totally get your frustration. The more genuine materials can get pricey because they're harder to source. So if you're looking for something cheap, faux options are often the only way to go. Plus, finding solid ceramic tiles for flooring is tough since they’re usually slippery due to the glazing. It’s a tough choice!

Have you thought about checking out a local flooring store? They usually have a ton of options for solid colors that you might not find at big retailers. Places like Lowe's and Home Depot tend to stock only what's trending, so you might miss out on what you really want!

That was my first thought too! Sometimes those larger chains don't carry the full range of what you might be looking for.
