Is that rubber smell normal for my jigsaw?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a used Bosch PST 700 E jigsaw from Facebook Marketplace, and it's my first time owning one of these tools. It seems to be in great shape, but I noticed that when I turn it on, it gives off a rubbery smell. Is this something to worry about, or am I just being overly cautious? Any advice would be appreciated!

That rubber smell could indicate a burnt motor, especially if it's been used a lot in the past. I had a drill that had a similar issue and it let off a smell too. If this jigsaw isn't running right, I'd approach it with caution and maybe get it looked at before using it on important projects.

You might want to check if the jigsaw is compatible with the power supply where you live. If you're in the UK, it should work fine with 230V, but always good to double-check. Also, if you're able, share some photos of the labels on the jigsaw so we can give you more precise guidance!

Haha, I thought you were joking about the jigsaw until I realized it's not about puzzles!

I live in the UK with 230V and 50Hz, so I think it should be good. Here’s a link to the jigsaw details from Bosch's site: https://www.bosch-diy.com/gb/en/p/pst-700-e-06033a0070.
