I just bought a condo that I absolutely love, but the shower walls are a complete eyesore. I'm calling them the 'soap walls' because they look like huge bars of homemade soap! They appear to be solid panels, possibly glass, and I'm trying to decide if I should tackle the removal myself or hire someone to do it. What do you recommend for removing or replacing them? Any tips on DIY methods or should I just hire a pro?

You could also consider just having someone paint those walls. Given the effort it might take to remove them and risk damaging other stuff, hiring a pro could save you headaches in the long run. Just make sure they use the right type of paint – latex can lead to problems in moisture-prone areas like the shower!
Those walls are definitely ugly – I feel you! I'm with the others that suggest a total tear-down could be in your future. But on the bright side, if you're looking for a less drastic approach first, you could try the Rust-Oleum Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit. It comes in gloss white, which would modernize the look a lot. Just make sure to remove any fixtures like that little mirror first and you might want to sand down any rough patches before you paint. It’s not too much work and if you don’t like the outcome, you can still go for the full remodel later.
Honestly, it really comes down to how comfortable you feel. If they’re really solid slabs, that might complicate things. Tiling could be the best long-term solution, but you'll need to invest in some tools if you go that route. There are tons of tutorials online, so you'll definitely have resources to help.
