Need Tips on Cutting Wood for My DIY Farmhouse Table

I'm about to tie the knot and I want to make a farmhouse kitchen table for our home. Since it's tough to find a table in the size we want (36x58 inches), we thought building it would be the best route and a fun project. I've checked out some YouTube guides, but I'm stuck on one part: getting the wood cut properly! My first attempt with Home Depot's free cuts was a disaster—nothing matched up. While the cuts will work for the legs, I need a new piece for the tabletop because I mistakenly bought pressure-treated wood. If I get my wood from a lumber store, do you think their cuts will be better? Or should I just rent or buy a circular saw and figure out how to cut it myself?

In my experience, most lumber yards will only do rough cuts and might not give you the precision you're looking for. You may want to check out local makerspaces or workshops; they often have the tools and might even offer cutting services!

I had no idea workshops existed for stuff like this!

I've had great success working with cabinet shops. They often have access to wood that lumber yards don’t and can cut it to your specifications. Plus, it's usually cheaper than Home Depot for similar quality! You might even consider just commissioning them for the tabletop—it's likely more affordable and you’ll get a higher quality finish without having to buy a ton of tools you may not use again.

That sounds like a smart move! You get exactly what you want and it saves you the hassle of learning to use new tools.
