Best Tools for Shaping a Pebble-like Wooden Block?

I'm looking for advice on what tools to use to quickly carve a rounded, pebble shape from a block of wood that's about 30 to 50 cm long. Any recommendations on techniques or specific tools that would help in this process?

If you're planning on creating concave areas, just remember they can be tougher to sand than the convex ones. Using a set of gouges would be a good idea for those, as they create a nice surface that requires less sanding. A bandsaw is perfect for those rough cuts if you have a specific rock shape in mind.

For hand tools, I'd suggest using a saw first to get it to size, then a carving axe or hatchet to shape it further. A carving axe can be really effective from the start without needing to saw beforehand. Definitely worth considering!

I’d start by sawing off as much of the wood as you can, then use a Shinto rasp to round it off properly. It’s a great tool for shaping wood! After that, you can finish it up with sanding for a smoother surface.
