How Can I Block Sound from a Door That’s Not in Use?

I'm living in an old shotgun house with my roommates, and there's a door in the wall I share with one of them. We can hear everything happening on the other side, which is pretty annoying. I'm looking for a temporary solution to cover the gap between this door and the wall to block the sound, but it has to be renter-friendly since we can't make permanent changes. I'm hoping something can be set up without using furniture since we don't have the space for that. Any suggestions?

Consider using foam board that you can cut to fit snugly against the door. If there's enough space, adding fiberglass or rock wool insulation will help dampen the sound even further. It’s easily removable and doesn’t damage the door.

That’s true! In the past, I helped a friend soundproof his practice room this way. He covered gaps in his windows with foam board, and it really cut down on the noise from neighbors.
