Best Insulation Options for a Hot Room in Central Texas?

Hey everyone! I'm a college student living in central Texas, and it's getting really hot in my room. The place is poorly insulated, and one wall is just bare 2x4s. On the other side is a hallway and staircase that tends to heat up a lot. I'm thinking about installing insulation batts and putting drywall over them, but I'm not sure what R rating I should go for or if there might be better alternatives. Any advice would be super helpful because I want to tackle this project soon!

It sounds like you've got a tricky situation! For your 2x4 wall, Roxul batts with an R15 rating would be a solid choice, but R13 fiberglass works too. Just keep in mind that insulating an interior wall might not drastically change the temperature, but it could help a bit. Consider that the other side of your wall already gets pretty warm, so any insulation will at least give you a barrier to work with.

That makes sense! I’ve got some pics on my profile showing the wall—maybe that’ll help clear things up.
