What Tools Should I Get as a New HVAC Technician?

I just landed a job as an entry-level HVAC technician that includes selling parts and new systems. I already own some M18 and M12 batteries and a few Milwaukee tools like an older M12 fuel drill/driver and a M12 rover light, which I think will be handy for working in attics and crawl spaces. Since I'm starting out and will be doing basic tasks initially, I want to know what other tools I should consider. Is the latest M12 fuel driver worth the investment? I have little experience in this field and most of my tools are DIY homeowner items. Any recommendations for essential HVAC tools, particularly for someone just getting started? Thanks!

You already have a decent start with your power tools! Besides that, look into core HVAC tools like removal tools and depressors, good gauges, and detectors. Don't overlook vacuum pumps—Milwaukee has a solid model for that. Honestly, just focus on what's essential; I've bought tools that I never used and ended up trading them for rolling drawer packouts that I actually use. Keep it light and functional, especially when you're working on roofs or ladders!

I'd recommend getting a good pair of Knipex twin grips and cobra pliers, the 8-inch ones are great. Also, grab a solid set of installation screwdrivers, a reliable locking tape measure, and consider the new M12 fuel combo kit, especially since it has a sheet metal screw functionality that will save you from stripping screws.

If you're looking at hand tools, consider adding a stubby M12 fuel impact and a M12 fuel drill from Milwaukee. Klein and Fieldpiece tools are also a good investment for HVAC. Just remember, you don't need every tool under the sun—travel light and focus on what you'll use regularly.
