Hey everyone! I'm considering picking up the new DeWalt 20V 12" sliding miter saw that just came out. I'm trying to decide if it's a good buy, or if I should invest a bit more in the 60V version instead. Since I only own 20V tools and batteries, the 20V model seems more convenient. But I'm curious: is there really a big power difference between the 60V and 20V options that would make the extra cost worth it? Or can a 20V tool match the performance of a 60V depending on the battery used?

Why go for a battery-operated miter saw? I'm genuinely curious about your intended use case here.
Are you talking about the DCS714? That's actually a 10" model, not 12". I've got the older dual-battery 120V Max miter saw, which outperforms the newer 60V tool. Honestly, using a 20V battery with a 10" blade seems risky to me; the 20V 7.25" circular saw is nowhere near as powerful as the 60V options. If you want something portable for small projects, maybe stick with the DCS361. But really, for the power and flexibility, I’d seriously consider going with the 60V tools and FlexVolt batteries.
The 60V model is actually priced lower now, given that it’s a few years old. They offer it with a 3Ah battery for about $649. I haven't tested both side by side, but I’d guess their performance is pretty similar. The main difference is efficiency: the 60V can do 255 cuts on a pressure-treated 4x4 with a 3Ah battery, which is 1.42 cuts per watt-hour. In contrast, the 20V would only manage 153 cuts with an 8Ah battery, coming in at 0.96 cuts per watt-hour. Also, keep in mind the 20V has that cool Wireless Tool Control feature to connect to a compatible dust extractor, which the 60V lacks.
I’ve been using the DCS781 since early this year, and I haven't noticed any power issues. Can't compare it to a 20V miter saw since I haven’t tried that, but I did upgrade to a CMT blade recently and it’s been awesome. Just a heads up, the dust extraction isn’t perfect, but that’s the case with most miter saws.

I just think it’s a super cool new tool that I absolutely need in my life ?. I’ve got a corded DSW779, but I’m really considering a cordless saw for some projects around my house and property.
