Hey everyone! I'm working on creating recessed wall panels around my staircase and I'm considering using 1/8" MDF as the backer. I've noticed that most tutorials suggest using 1/4" MDF instead. Do you think 1/8" will be sufficient, or is it really necessary to stick with the thicker material? I appreciate any insights you have!

1/8" MDF is pretty thin for something like wall panels, but it might work if you're careful. Are you looking for a cheaper option? If so, what's your reason for choosing it over 1/4"? This could help others give better advice.

I'm actually doing this project for free for some seniors, and the 1/8" is half the price of 1/4". I want to balance cost with quality, so I'm trying to figure out if the thinner material will hold up.
