I'm trying to fit a taller fridge in my kitchen, but the cabinet above it has an annoying trim that's sticking down about 7/8". I need to trim down about 1/4" (I'd prefer 1/8", but I'm playing it safe here). What's the best way to tackle this without making it look bad? Should I remove the whole cabinet, or is there a way to cut and sand it down in place? I'm really not sure what I'm doing, so any advice would help! I've also included some photos of the space for reference.

If you want the cleanest cut, using an electric planer or a belt sander with 60 grit is your best bet. Mark your cut line and carefully sand down to it. Once you get it close, you can use a palm router with a round over bit to smooth the edge. Just remember to run it left to right for the best finish. If you don't have those tools, a hand chiseling method can also work but will take a lot longer. Don't forget to wear gloves and a mask while you work! Good luck! ?

Great tips! I'd also suggest using masking tape to mark your cut line—it helps keep things straight. I'd stick with the belt sander over a planer for this. For the corners, use a metal drywall knife to protect the adjacent surfaces while sanding. And just a quick note: a coat of primer followed by paint will finalize the look nicely!
