I'm trying to decide on the best materials for building a deck and I'm stuck between traditional wood and composite options. I've noticed that wood is cheaper to buy initially, but it requires a lot of upkeep, like regular staining and sealing to prevent damage. On the other hand, composite materials are more expensive upfront but seem to last longer with less maintenance. For those of you who have built or replaced your decks, which material has worked better for you over time? Any lessons learned or regrets you want to share?

From my experience, composite is generally the way to go if you want something low-maintenance. Sure, it costs more at first, but you won't have to worry about yearly staining or sealing, and it holds up well over time. Wood can be cheaper, but it really does require attention or it can weather quickly.

That makes sense! I've seen decks that were left untreated turn gray pretty fast. Did you install composite yourself or have someone do it?
