Who Should I Hire to Run Cables Through My Walls?

I'm looking to run fiber optic HDMI and USB cables through my wall to an upstairs bedroom, and I'm thinking about using a narrow PVC pipe for future upgrades. I'm really hesitant to take this on myself because I don't want to damage my walls. What type of professional should I hire for this? Would a general handyman be enough, or should I go with an electrician? Also, I'd like help with any drywall repairs afterwards.

It's worth checking with home automation companies. They often have techs available who can run Ethernet cables and similar tasks. Just be ready, some of them can be a bit pricey! My experience with them was good, but I'd recommend asking for quotes from a few places.

You might want to look for a low voltage electrical company for this kind of job. They specialize in running cables without making too much mess. But honestly, a good handyman could handle it too! Just make sure they also do drywall work because you'll likely need some patching afterward.

I’ve used a variety of pros depending on the job complexity. Handymen can be great for basic setups, but if you need someone who specializes in low voltage work, it might be worth looking into those techs specifically. Just remember, even if you hire an electrician for the cable run, you’ll still likely need someone else for drywall repairs.
