How Dominant Are Crested Traits in Cross-Pollinating Echeverias?

Hey everyone! I'm super excited because I finally got my hands on a crested briar rose after searching for it for ages. I'm looking to eventually create my own little succulent collection once it starts blooming. I'm particularly curious about cross-breeding crested echeverias with non-crested ones. Does anyone have experience with this? How likely are the offspring to inherit those cool crested traits? Also, is there a lower success rate when mixing a crested with a non-crested?

From what I know, cresting in succulents is generally considered a mutation rather than a straightforward genetic trait. So, it might be tricky to predict how often that trait will show up in the offspring. Many times, you can only propagate a crested plant by taking cuttings from the crested part itself, and even then, it can lose that characteristic over time. However, some plants do seem to consistently produce crested offspring more than others, but it might be hard for an amateur breeder to control that.

Got it! I always thought the mutation was genetic. I'll dive into what actually causes it – sounds fascinating! Thanks for shedding some light!
