Can I Install Floating Shelves Behind My Toilet Safely?

Hey everyone! I have a quick question about installing floating shelves directly behind my toilet. I'm planning to use 1 1/4" screws, but I'm a bit anxious about hitting any plumbing. I live on the ground floor of a two-story building, and my neighbor's toilet is right above mine. Is it safe to do this, or should I be cautious?

I’m not a plumber, but I’d definitely recommend using a stud finder first. You can drill some pilot holes just deep enough to confirm you've hit a stud, which will be much safer than drilling blindly. Just keep in mind that some stud finders don’t differentiate between a stud and plumbing, so be cautious! You can find stud finders that do both if you're worried about pipes.

So, drilling into a stud means I won't hit any pipes, right?

Installing shelves behind your toilet might not be the best idea! I remember a friend hired a contractor who accidentally hit a plumbing line while doing something similar. The line was placed wrongly, and they ended up having to replace the flooring in the whole house! Better to be safe than sorry.

Yikes, that sounds stressful!
