I'm getting ready to paint the outside of my house and I have a question about my ductless heat pump. The unit has a two-head Daikin system that the previous owner installed. One of the line sets is awkwardly installed and is leaking, plus the cover is cracked and damaged in several areas. I consider myself pretty handy and would like to know if I can measure and replace the line set and cover myself. If I disconnect the old line set, will I lose all the refrigerant, or is it something I can do relatively easily? Also, can anyone suggest discrete line set covers that won't stand out too much?

You can definitely swap out the cover on your own! But when it comes to the line set, I'd advise against messing with that. Disconnecting it will cause the refrigerant to escape, and you'll need specialized tools like a vacuum pump and gauges to recharge and purge the system afterward. If I were you, I'd just replace the cover myself and then call a pro to handle the line set leak.
For sure, if you disconnect the line set, all the refrigerant is going to vent out. It’s not worth the risk trying to do it yourself! Better to leave that part to a qualified technician.
