Upgrading to a Thicker Door: Tips for Fitting It in My Frame

Hey everyone! I'm planning to install a thicker solid core door that's 1.75" wide, but my doorframe groove seems too narrow for it. I've attached a photo for you to check out. Just to clarify, the exposed wood part and the white section aren't structural; those were just extensions added because the wall is thicker now for better soundproofing. So the actual doorframe is around 5 inches wide, but that groove definitely cuts into it quite a bit. What are my options here? Thanks for any advice!

If you're struggling with that fit, consider buying a prehung door instead. It's a lot simpler than trying to modify your frame and can save you a headache! I did it myself and it took about 3 hours, even as a beginner.

I totally agree with you! Prehung doors are definitely the way to go. Just remember to remove any trim or moulding first to check your true rough opening; you don't want any surprises later on.

Yep, prehung is definitely the way to go!
