Is it Safe to Connect Two 48V Batteries in Series for Solar Use?

Hey everyone! I'm wondering if it's safe to connect two 48V, 100Ah LiFePO4 batteries with a 200A BMS each in series. I have a power bank that accepts solar input up to 150V at 15 amps, and I'm looking to boost my capacity by using these external 48v batteries. Charging with just one battery takes a few hours, so I'm hoping that adding two in series could cut down that time in half. Thoughts?

You definitely need to check if the BMS on those batteries is rated for the total voltage when connected in series. Most BMS systems can’t handle the higher combined voltage safely. If not rated for it, things could fail dramatically when energized. Always ensure that your system components match properly before setup!

Refer to your battery's datasheet for specifics on series connections. Batteries function differently than solar panels, so don't just assume they’ll work with your charge controller. Check that everything is compatible before hooking them up!

To answer your question, while it's technically possible to connect the two 48V batteries in series, be aware that it doubles the voltage, which can be dangerous if you're not careful with the wiring. Safety first! You’ll want to ensure your system can handle that voltage. With proper setup, your power bank should charge fine from the two batteries!
