First off, what type of subfloor are you dealing with? If it’s concrete, you can just clean it up. But if it’s plywood, you should cut out the bad section and replace it—it’s not too pricey! As for the drywall, yeah, you’ll want to remove that too, but replacing it isn’t a huge financial hit either. Just get comfortable with doing some drywall work. In the end, this could cost you a couple hundred bucks at most and maybe a few days of labor. At least you caught it early!
